Prayer Flags on Gokyo Ri - Nepal Buddhist prayers flutter skyward, from the block-printed prayer flags left by so many travelers to this high place. Partially veiled in the background is the legendary south face of Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world at 8,201 meters. In 1983 Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander, and Michl Dacherand completed the first ascent of this extraordinary wall.

Infinite Ridges, Khumbu Valley - Nepal After the sun sets, the infinite white ridges surrounding Ama Dablam are set in the clearest sky like razor blades - serrated and sharp, ruffled with snowy skirts, even though they are miles away.

Golden Dusk, Gokyo Valley - Nepal Cholatse, and its neighboring alpine peaks, light up with the golden tones of a spectacular sunset, from Gokyo Ri. Far below, at the village of Gokyo, the oppressive clouds and darkness almost kept us from hiking up to the top of the hill. But, just a few hundred meters from the summit, we broke out of the valley cloud and were rewarded with this scene.
