Batu Balong - Indonesia

There is a 30cm difference between the Indian and Pacific oceans, and here, in the straits between the islands of Komodo, they try to equilibrate. And, as the oceans squeeze through these narrow gaps they go from thousands of meters in depth to only hundreds. All of this creates the swiftest currents I have ever dove in - and the best feeding grounds for large pelagic fish such as the reef mantas. Diving here was a challenge - and a reward.
