Stone Fortress, Sawtooth Mountains - Idaho
Deep within a rarely crossed pass, these walls rise up on each side, forming a vivid lichen-covered barrier to the serrated ridge beyond. Actually, the word 'pass' might be too strong a term, as it is more of a nearly vertical cleft in the wall of peaks south of the Goat Creek drainage. A delicate scramble, 3000 feet up between these walls, brings you into a fantastic basin of emerald lakes.
